If you read the title, I assure you, you've read it right. I have returned from Bali, Indonesia for work. The trip was all paid for, by my Client, who required us (office) to source for good balinese furniture for his house that is currently under construction. Although this was not my first time there, but it was a first for furniture hunting purposes. A local driver was arranged for us throughout the 3 day 2 night trip and best of all, our accommodation for the trip was at Hard Rock Hotel, Kuta, Bali. From the time we arrived at the hotel lobby till the time we checked out, the service we received from the staff was A+... they were always so friendly, attentive and helpful to all the guest, local and foreign. I am saying this because, when I stayed at HRH Penang, Malaysia, the service was sooooo bad that I wrote a nasty review of them on tripadvisor. The staffs there obviously treated the foreign guest better than us locals. Makes my blood curl just thinking of the double standard service.
Coming back to the furniture hunting trip, the in thing now in Bali is retro/industrial vintage furniture. Although we need to take extra slow drive to identify the shops selling these pieces, but when we did, it was truly an amazing experience. All I can say is that Balinese Indonesian are a creative lot and they don't charge ridiculously for their amazing work. I am sure, if given more time, I would have discovered several more furniture gem in Bali. Well, here is hoping for another trip there....
So, for anyone requiring any info on good furniture shops/outlets in Bali, do please inquire the details from me. I'll be more than happy to assist :)
